Motivational Monday - Perseverance

When I first opened my Etsy shop I was fortunate enough to meet some really great shop owners.  Most of us were beginners just starting out.  We’d share marketing techniques that worked and warn each other of pitfalls to avoid.  I had many a frustrating day during that first year.  Sometimes I felt like I was just spinning my wheels.  As the year’s progressed I looked around and saw very few of my “beginner buddies”.  Life events and changing priorities eliminated a few.  But more often than not folks viewed the landscape and felt that they couldn’t keep going.  No one tells you that you’ll spend quite a bit of time on the computer or at craft shows marketing your products and building your brand.  So some of my peers got discouraged and threw in the towel.  That isn’t a character flaw.  In Hamlet, Shakespeare wrote “This above all:  to thine own self be true”.  If after giving it your all you realize that this isn’t for you, by all means step away with your head held high.  But if this is your passion, remember what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said:  “Perseverance is a great element of success.  If you only know long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody”.

Motivational Monday - Comfort Zone

This is one of my favorite motivational quotes.  I first saw it a few years ago.  I like it because it reminds me that in life it is important to step out of your comfort zone from time to time.  When I first opened my Etsy shop I made Christmas ornaments.  Then I decided that I wanted to make only beach themed Christmas ornaments.  As time went on I realized that I wanted to make and sell coastal d├ęcor. That opened the door for shell photo frames, night lights, and refrigerator magnets.  For awhile I shied away from beach themed wedding items.  It started with one DIY bride looking for beach wedding finishing touches.  That one order turned into three orders, and then I was well on my way to my living my passion.

How are you stretching yourself by moving out of your comfort zone?
